FAQs
Why do I need lexi if there’s AI?
I love this question. I wrote a newsletter called “You Probably Need a Robot” that grew to 65K subscribers in three months about how to use AI to be more productive.
While AI is amazing for organizing, creating outlines, and engaging in a back-and-forth, it lacks the ability to establish a human connection. What gets an admissions officer to accept an application isn’t a mechanically written, perfectly organized (boring) essay.
People are moved by essays that surprise them. Essays should be written with heart, soul, and intellect. We all want human connection; admissions officers are more likely to select your application if they are compelled by your experience and story. Besides, admissions officers and other decision makers basically have a built-in AI detector by now.
TLDR: AI can help make outlines and brainstorm, but it fails to create a meaningful connection with the reader.
Does lexi use AI?
Yes, I like to use AI to test ideas. AI can also be an effective “second set of eyes” for editing. I don’t use AI to fill up space in an essay, nor supplement the paragraphs. AI is simply a tool, it is not used to generate essays. AI can write an essay about rock formation, not the story of your life nor the experiences that have shaped you!
How does lexi’s process work?
My process is not one-size-fits-all. Everyone is unique and requires a tailored approach. Some people have already drafted the essay in mind, others need prompting and conversation to stir up ideas.
The initial session is typically spent brainstorming and drafting outlines. Follow-up sessions are then scheduled as needed. I find it works best when the first session is 45 minutes, and following sessions range between one and three hours.
How does lexi charge?
I charge hourly and you can contact me about specific rates.
